Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with Nasser Judeh, Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs here on Saturday.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, while expressing happiness with Nassar Judeh’s visit to Iran, highlighted the need for collective efforts by the regional countries to fight extremism and terrorism, saying that barbaric terrorist acts such as killing of Jordanian pilot are not acceptable and they taint the image of Islam.
Zarif pointed to the crimes committed by the ISIL terrorists, and said, "They (the terrorists) try to create division among Muslims.”
He added that Iran seeks serious and clear interaction and exchange of views on various regional issues so as to reach a mutual understanding.
Pointing to Zionist regime’s attempts at shifting attention on minor issues in the region, Zarif said knowing about Israel’s plots is for the benefit of all countries in the region.
Zarif stressed that healthy relations and closeness of ties with regional and neighboring countries is the top priority of Iran’s foreign policy, saying that Persian Gulf and the Middle East are our region and we are a part of it.
During the meeting, the Jordanian foreign minister also expressed pleasure for visiting Iran and described consultations with Iranian authorities among his country's paramount importance, saying that Iran is an important country in the region which can help resolve regional issues.
Pointing to extremism and terrorism as the main problem in the region, Judeh said, "This problem is not just confined and related to Shias or Sunnis."
He referred to regional issues as the core of his country's foreign policy principles, saying that the region has been affected by instability, violence and extremism for several years and we believe that political stability and security should be restored to the region sooner and for the same reason we need unity and solidarity among all Muslim nations as well as talks and consultations with Iranian brothers on vital regional issues.
"The Arab League should organize Arab-Iranian dialogue like its talks with other countries," Judeh said.
During the meeting, in addition to talks on the issue of Palestine, Iraq and Syria, the latest developments in nuclear negotiations between Iran and 5+1 were discussed. It was also decided to hold a joint economic commission between the two countries in near future.
